Chief Executive Officer of D7G, Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria’s (DICON’s) private sector partner, Osman Chennar, has said the company will back the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu through transfer of advanced technology to Nigeria.

Speaking at the inauguration of DICON-D7G Headquarters Complex in Abuja yesterday, he said D7G’s platform is providing jobs to skilled retired military officers and men in factory, administration and logistics in defence equipment production in Nigeria.

He said the company would encourage young engineering graduates and computer scientists to drive reverse engineering in weapon systems and advanced armament technology.

Chennar noted that in four months, its ammunition production line for 7.62mm x 39mm with capacity for 50 million rounds will be in Nigeria.

In addition, he said, production of DG 103 rifles, equivalent to AK 103 rifles, will begin as the raw materials are ready.

He said the company will build  a military jetty in Lagos, with an area for building ships, production, assembly, and storage of defence equipment, covering 160,000 square metres for staff quarters, training school, restaurants, supermarket, hospital, guest house, recreational facility, D7G Military Club with Independent Power Plant.

DICON’s Director General, Maj Gen BI Alaya, said the occasion was a manifestation of a new vision for the corporation and the nation towards enhancing the country’s defence industrial base.

He said development of a robust Military Industrial Complex will impact the economy in skill development, technology transfer, import substitution, industrial development and supply chains, as well as export potential.

Maj Gen Alaya noted that the collaboration between DICON and D7G goes beyond business as it aligns with the Presidential Executive Order on “Nigeria First” policy.

“Today marks more than just unveiling of a building; it symbolises the dawn of an era in our national defence and industrial capabilities. It is culmination of strategic foresight, patriotic collaboration, and commitment to the security and our nation’s self-reliance.In recent years, the need for Nigeria to take charge of its defence manufacturing capacity has become more urgent and evident. Our geopolitical realities, security challenges, and economic aspirations compel us to look inward to develop, produce, and sustain the hardware that protects our sovereignty. Furthermore, this initiative would reduce the nation’s overreliance on foreign companies/nations for its military and security hardware,” he said.

D7G said it will establish the first African production and assembly factory for arms (DG 103 rifles and others) and ammunition, building of Naval Military ships ( 10-100 metres) by TAIS Shipyard of Turkiye, drones, anti-drone jammers, jammers, Ground Surveillance radars, armoured vehicles and UAVs.

It added that it will assemble Semi-knocked Down and Completely Knocked Down of arms, vehicles, drones, helicopters, UAVs, jammers and anti-drones jammers, binoculars and Night Vision Goggles, mine sweepers all NATO standard.

Minister of State for Defence, Muhammed Matawalle, lauded the collaboration, saying it comes at a time the country is enhancing its defence capability. He noted that in today’s complex security challenges, no single entity can do it alone.
