First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has extended her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) food outreach to Lagos, distributing essential food items to vulnerable families and persons living with disabilities.

Represented by Hajia Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President, the First Lady also announced plans for new nationwide projects to support the elderly.

According to a statement on Saturday by Special Assistant to the President on Media and ICT, Office of the Vice President, Kwapchi Bata Hamman, she said the outreach was designed to ease the burden on the most vulnerable members of society.

“This Food Outreach Scheme under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI)’s Social Investment Scope was launched in March 2024 to provide food items to Persons with Disabilities and other vulnerable groups in order to support their families,” she explained.

The programme is funded by the Abdul-Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR) and an anonymous donor.

Each month, the donors supply two truckloads of food items to two states.

While 16 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have already benefited, Lagos became the latest beneficiary through the contribution of the anonymous donor.

Bayelsa and Sokoto have been named as the next states to benefit.

Senator Tinubu also highlighted other RHI initiatives, including the SDG/Renewed Hope Initiative Women Empowerment Programme for the South-West, which provides freezers, cookers, ovens, and generators for small businesses, and the RHI/Tony Elumelu Foundation Women Economic Empowerment Programme.

Backed by a N1 billion fund, the scheme will provide N50,000 each to 500 women in every state and the FCT.

She further revealed that the initiative would soon launch projects to support the elderly and more persons with disabilities, while also rolling out “Flow with Confidence,” a programme to provide a year’s supply of sanitary pads to 370,000 schoolgirls nationwide.

“Our goal at RHI is to complement the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which aims to support all Nigerians to thrive and achieve their goals irrespective of their condition or status,” the First Lady stated.

Receiving the food items on behalf of beneficiaries, Lagos First Lady Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu described the intervention as timely and deeply appreciated.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also commended the initiative, noting that its direct impact on communities aligns with his administration’s THEMES+ agenda, which emphasizes social inclusion, health, and grassroots economic empowerment.

Beneficiaries included struggling families as well as persons living with disabilities, among them the blind and the deaf, who expressed gratitude for the relief.
