Gov Adeleke To Pardon Man Sentenced To Death For Stealing Fowl | Daily Report Nigeria

The governor of Osun state, Ademola Adeleke has spoken up, as he reacts to news of a man being sentenced to death for theft.

In a series of news making rounds online, a young man could be seen being accused of stealing a fowl, and was also sentenced to death by hanging for the same crime.

In an interview with Biola Adebayo, the accused’s parents explained how their son, who is a medical student is innocent, while adding that he was falsely accused.

In recent news, Daily Report Nigeria gathers that a statement from the table of the governor, and signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed on Tuesday, December 17 has ordered the Attorney General to intervene in the matter and ensure the young man is listed for prerogative of mercy before the end of the year.

The statement reads,

‘’ I have received the report of a case of a young man reportedly sentenced to death by hanging in Osun State for stealing a fowl. Consequently, I have directed the Attorney- General and Commissioner for Justice, Osun State to commence full investigation into the matter and initiate processes to grant prerogative of mercy to the young man.

Osun is a land of justice and equity and must ensure fairness and protection of the sanctity of lives. I assure members of the public that this matter is receiving my direct attention with every sense of urgency also attached to our response to the matter.”
