Govt Begins Taxing Corpses At Mortuaries, Netizens React | Daily Report Nigeria

  • Nigerians have reacted, following the plan of the Enugu state government to impose tax on corpses at the mortuary.
  • The state government, through the ESIRS made this tax generation program known to the public.

Many have reacted to the latest developments in Enugu state as the government begins imposing taxes on corpses.

In a recent statement revealed to the general public on Saturday,  October 12, the chairman of the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service (ESIRS), Emmanuel Nnamani said the purpose of this tax is to discourage prolong corpse storage in morgues.

Emmanuel also added that directives have been sent to mortuary attendants to ensure a few of #40 is paid for any corpse joy buried within 24 hours.

Reacting to this, many Nigerians have poured out their minds, with some adding that “corpses are no longer allowed to rest in peace”

Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna senator, said: “taxing dead bodies in Enugu finally means people can no longer rest in peace”.

Another X user commented that the government was only trying to “end the situation where corpses are kept in a morgue for months before being buried”.

Tax
