De Norsemen Kclub International (DNKI) has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to urgently address the suffering of citizens, which has been further exacerbated by the removal of fuel subsidy by the current administration.

The humanitarian organisation also called for increased action regarding the rising insecurity, emphasising that no region of the country can be considered truly safe at present.

DNKI made these appeals at the conclusion of their 16th International Converge, held at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja from 13th to 15th December 2024.

In a communiqué issued after the conference, the group, led by its International President, Chief Chidi Anokwu, expressed support for the government’s cashless policy while urging security agencies to perform their duties with greater professionalism.

The communiqué, signed by Isidore Agughasi, the acting International Publicity Secretary of DNKI, further encouraged members to focus on their health, be responsible parents, and increase their involvement in humanitarian activities.

The communiqué stated in part:

“We urge the government to alleviate the hardships faced by the populace, noting that the suffering caused by the removal of the fuel subsidy has resulted in widespread frustration across Nigeria and created humanitarian crises.

“Delegates called on the government to reassess its economic policies to ensure they are people-focused and accessible to the masses, emphasising that government can only serve the living, not the dead.

“DNKI expressed concern over the current level of insecurity, highlighting that no part of the country is truly safe at the moment. It asserted that meaningful socioeconomic and political activities cannot flourish while citizens live in an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty, and thus advised the government to prioritise the security of life and property.

“DNKI supports the federal government’s cashless policy, stating that it would help reduce crime and the circulation of counterfeit currency. However, they recommended that the government invest in and upgrade technology to ensure the smooth implementation of this policy, alleviating the burden it has placed on Nigerians, especially amid the current cash crunch.

“Delegates encouraged members to remain industrious, creative, patriotic, disciplined, and law-abiding, wherever they may be.

“We urge members to enhance their involvement in humanitarian service, which lies at the organisation’s core.

“We task members with being responsible family men, dedicating sufficient time and resources to their families, as stable and progressive families contribute to a stable and progressive nation.

“We emphasise the importance of health awareness, encouraging regular medical check-ups and identifying exercise as vital for maintaining good health and leading a fulfilling life.

“We appeal to security agencies to conduct their duties with professionalism and thoroughness, advising them to refrain from harassing DNKI members and disrupting their programmes, as the body operates as a legal entity both in Nigeria and abroad.”
