Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India is set to visit Nigeria as part of a broader engagement with Africa.
The visit, scheduled just ahead of the G20 Summit in Brazil on November 18-19, is part of India’s efforts to strengthen strategic and economic ties with African nations, with a focus on deepening security cooperation and trade relations.
The engagement follows a series of strategic dialogues, including counter-terrorism talks co-chaired by Indian NSA Ajit Doval and Nigerian NSA Nuhu Ribadu.
The upcoming visit is significant, considering Nigeria’s position as a crucial economic and strategic partner for India in Africa.
Both countries have a history of cooperation in defence, training, and capacity building, including the establishment of Nigerian military institutions with India’s assistance.
The visit is expected to open new avenues for bilateral agreements and enhance collaborative efforts in areas such as counter-terrorism, defence, and economic partnerships.
