The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a shift in the collation schedule for the Ondo State governorship election.
Initially planned to resume at 5 a.m. on Sunday, the collation will now continue at noon.
The announcement was made by the Returning Officer, Professor Olayemi Akinwunmi, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Lokoja.
He explained that the delay aims to allow sufficient time for the arrival of results from the remaining five local government areas.
“We have five more local governments to collate, but we are going to take a recess until noon to ensure the results from Akure North, Okitipupa, Odigbo, Ilaje, and Ese-Odo arrive in time,” Prof. Akinwunmi said.
Results from 13 of the 18 local government areas have been announced, placing the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in a commanding lead.
Aiyedatiwa has garnered 259,851 votes, far ahead of his closest competitor, Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who trails with 81,031 votes.
