The Chairman of Gbenga Power Foundation, Hon. Gbenga
Power-Oyekunle, has condemned the ongoing demolition of shops by the
Lagos State Government at the popular Oluwole Market in Lagos Island
describing it as a serious setback for business owners who are affected.
He stated this while speaking with journalists on Monday to sympathize with scores of natives of Kwara State who are mostly from Igbaja in Ifelodun Local Government Area.
Gbenga-Power expressed reservations on the approach adopted by the Lagos State Government, noting that, “it could have been handled better considering the fact that livelihoods of many people depends on those demolished shops.
“At a time when things are very difficult for people, due to economic hardship, the unceremonious demolition of people’s source of living is suicidal to say the least “.
He further stressed that, “While it is understandable that development is imminent in a mega city like Lagos, the state government ought to have make adequate arrangements for the relocation of these men and women, some of whom businesses are proceed of financial institution facilities ”
“Our hearts at Gbenga Power Foundation are with all those affected, who are mostly from the ancient town of Igbaja and have been residing in Lagos for decades; we pray God to heal and comfort them all in this trying period “.
