The Senate has begun screening Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun for confirmation as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), following President Bola Tinubu’s nomination letter to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
Kekere-Ekun has been serving as CJN in an acting capacity since August, after Justice Olukayode Ariwoola’s retirement.
President Tinubu’s letter, dated September 24, 2024, urged the Senate to expedite the confirmation process.
“I have the honour to forward the nomination of Honourable Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun CON for confirmation as CJN,” Tinubu wrote. “While it is my hope that this request will receive the expeditious consideration and confirmation of the Senate, please accept the distinguished Senate President the assurances of my highest consideration and personal regards.”
