Kun Khalifat FC of Owerri is gearing up for a historic debut in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), and they are leaving no stone unturned in preparation.
As the club takes its first steps into the country’s topflight football, a clear statement of intent has been made through strategic player acquisitions, strong backroom leadership, and a commitment to competitive excellence.
To ensure they are not just participants but contenders in their debut season, Kun Khalifat FC has strengthened its squad with key additions across the pitch.
Lekan Gabriel, a rock-solid defender from Osun United, was signed on a two-year deal. Gabriel’s reputation as a reliable figure in Imole Gladiators’ defense last season made him a sought-after asset, and his arrival is expected to bring stability and experience to the backline.
On the offensive front, the club secured Uche Moses from Abia Warriors. The dynamic winger, also tied to a two-year contract, brings pace, flair, and creativity—qualities that could prove vital in unlocking defences in the NPFL.

In addition to these headline signings, the club landed Umoh Louis, a versatile talent from a local non-league club in Imo State. Louis joins on a two-year deal and adds tactical depth to the squad.
At the heart of Kun Khalifat FC’s rise is the astute leadership of President Michael Chukwudi Amaefule. Widely commended for his visionary approach, Amaefule has instilled a culture of discipline, ambition, and belief within the club. His commitment to doing things the right way—on and off the pitch—has set the tone for the club’s entry into the top flight.
Coach Obinna Yaryar Uzoho, the architect behind the team’s tactical evolution, has also earned praise for his influence. Known for his motivational leadership and confidence in his players, Uzoho famously declared during their promotion campaign: “We’ll go there and show our class… We believe we can dominate the pitch.” His belief in the squad’s potential continues to be a major driving force as they prepare for the challenges of the NPFL.
Kun Khalifat FC’s baptism of fire will come on August 22 when they face Enugu Rangers, one of Nigeria’s most decorated football clubs with seven league titles. The match will be held in Enugu and marks the beginning of what promises to be an exciting chapter in the club’s journey.
While Rangers boast a storied history and an experienced squad, Kun Khalifat FC enters the encounter with momentum, a solid squad, and the belief that they belong at the top.
Kun Khalifat FC’s rapid rise through the Nigerian football system has been built on solid planning, smart recruitment, and inspired leadership. As they stand on the brink of their NPFL debut, the club looks more than ready to embrace the spotlight.
With the guidance of President Amaefule and Coach Uzoho, and a growing fan base behind them, the “Believe & Achieve” side is poised to not just compete—but to leave a mark.
The countdown to August 22nd has begun—and all eyes are now on Owerri’s rising stars.
