The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed that an investigation is underway regarding allegations surrounding the accommodation of convicted crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.

The NCoS Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Umar, stated that the service is committed to rehabilitation and safety through its comprehensive inmate admission process.

Umar explained that inmates undergo assessments to determine security risks, needs, and responsivity issues when brought to custodial centers.

The admission board evaluates each inmate to ensure safe housing and effective rehabilitation.

Umar highlighted that adherence to human rights principles is paramount in their approach.

Bobrisky was convicted for mutilating the naira in April and sentenced to six months in jail. An audio recording alleged that Bobrisky spent his jail term in a private apartment and paid N15 million to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission officials to drop money laundering charges.

The Federal Government has inaugurated an independent investigative panel to probe allegations of corruption and gross violations of standard operating procedures within the NCoS.

Umar emphasized that the service has a standard treatment for inmates during admission, which includes checks to determine security and custodial center suitability.

However, he refrained from commenting further until the investigation’s outcome.
