A Nigerian man identified as Ashiru Hadi, has been arrested by the Nigerian police.

The man was nabbed for allegedly drowning his grandmother in a well over a dispute about a pot of pumpkin pottage in Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria.

This shocking incident occurred in Kurar Mota village, according to police reports.

Commissioner of Police Shehu Muhammad Dalijan revealed that Hadi’s motive behind this heinous act was a disagreement over the pumpkin pottage.

“We have in our custody someone who killed his grandmother over pumpkin. He was reported to have requested to eat pumpkin but was denied,”

Dalijan said.

Hadi, who was arrested and paraded on Thursday in Gusau, the state capital, blamed his action on hunger and frustration.

“I came home hungry to find a pottage of pumpkin and requested my own share but I was denied. I then went behind and fetched some for myself but my grandmother came and took it away from me.

“Afterwards, she left to go get water from a nearby well; frustration set in, of course, so I followed her from behind and pushed her into the well and she drowned,” Hadi confessed.
