Trabzonspor forward and Super Eagles striker Anthony Nwakaeme is expected to be out of action for at least two months after suffering a hamstring injury during the team’s 1-0 victory over newly promoted Kocaelispor on Monday night.
The 36-year-old sustained the injury in the 84th minute and was subsequently replaced by Arif Bosluk. Medical examinations later confirmed a muscle tear, ruling him out for approximately eight weeks, according to reports from Turkey.

Nwakaeme’s injury comes as a significant blow to Trabzonspor, who still rely heavily on the veteran attacker as part of their push for silverware this season. Despite his age, he remains a key figure in the squad and was influential during the club’s historic 2021/22 Süper Lig title win — their first in nearly 40 years.
He had started the season opener and looked set to complete the full 90 minutes before the injury forced him off. The experienced forward will now begin rehabilitation with hopes of returning in time to contribute to the club’s ambitions later in the season.
Meanwhile, new signing Paul Onuachu opened his account for the club, scoring the decisive goal in the match and making an immediate impact following his transfer from Southampton.
