Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has publicly dismissed allegations regarding his supposed ambition for a third term in office, asserting that he never desired such an extension.

In a recent interview with Kayode Akintemi on News Central Television, Obasanjo clarified that while he could have pursued a third term, he chose not to.

He explained that certain governors were instrumental in perpetuating the rumors, believing that his re-election would allow them to extend their own tenures.

The former president further elaborated on the complexities of governance, remarking, “Getting debt relief for the country was much more complicated than getting a third term.”
