Olusegun Obasanjo Leadership Institute (OOLI) has celebrated Dr Akinwumi Adesina’s tenure as president of African Development Bank.
Represented by Prof. Samuel Daramola, Deputy Chief Executive, OOLI was honoured as a special guest at the Farewell Reception and Book Unveiling Ceremony hosted by the bank in Abidjan, Ivory Coast capital.
In a statement by the media consultant to OOLI, Daramola delivered a message from former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, chair and founder of OOLI, praising Adesina for his vision and commitment to Africa’s development.
Key highlights of his leadership included championing the “High 5” priorities: Light Up and Power Africa, feed Africa, industrialise Africa, integrate Africa, improve Quality of Life for the People; launching Africa Investment Forum to mobilise strategic capital; and spearheading Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation.
“… we salute Dr Adesina’s visionary stewardship at African Development Bank,” Prof Daramola said. Dr Adesina’s tenure offers lessons for leaders in Africa and the world, demonstrating how determination and innovative thinking can overcome challenges.”
Obasanjo said: “His High 5 framework and initiatives set a standard in development finance, igniting innovation and inclusive growth in Africa.”

Adesina noted the role of focused leadership in progress of organisations, saying mentorship and teamwork were key drivers to his success. He noted some staff, special assistants, and vice presidents, who contributed to the bank’s mission. He stressed importance of data, statistics, and rigorous analysis to his success.
He lauded Obasanjo’s legacy in establishing the institute, stressing its role in shaping ethical, visionary leadership.
The event also featured unveiling of Akinwumi Adesina – The Man, Mission and Message and The Mandate, a Festschrift, edited by Prof Banji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka.
Daramola shared OOLI’s dedication to cultivating ethical, forward-thinking leadership through immersive training programmes, policy innovation, and strategic partnerships.
Meanwhile, Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, former Senior Special Adviser to the President of the African Development Bank on Industrialization, has been confirmed as one of the distinguished facilitators for the October 2025 Lecture Series at the Olusegun Obasanjo Leadership Institute (OOLI).
