Over 90 Dead, 50 Hospitalized As Fuel Tanker Explodes In Maiduguri

• Over 90 people have been confirmed dead in an explosion that rocked a Jigawa village.

• Daily Report Nigeria gathers that a petrol tanker was said to have crashed into the village, leading to the massive explosion.

A ghastly explosion has claimed tons of lives in Jigawa state.

According to reports, the incident, which reportedly happened around 12:30 am on Wednesday, October 16 saw the explosion of a petrol tanker which crashed in Majiya village of Taura local government area of Jigawa State.

According to reports from the Jigawa state police spokesperson, Shi’isu Adam, after the tanker had fallen a, villages began to scoop fuel.

He said:

“Today (Wednesday) a petrol tanker from Port Harcourt going to Nguru in Yobe state reached Majiya village of Taura local government area at around 12:30 am the driver lost control at Majiya and fell down.

“The content in the tanker flooded gutters and drainages in the village. The villagers started fetching the fuel where the the petrol went into flame.

“As a result, 95 people confirmed died and 50 have been hospitalised receiving treatment”.

He also added that the injured are currently receiving treatment in the hospital, while mass burial will be conducted for the dead.
