PDP Chieftain Warns Atiku to Abandon 2027 Presidential Ambition

Comrade Richard Nwafor, the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, has urged the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to shelve any plans for the 2027 election.

Nwafor emphasized that the party needs new, younger leaders and should consider a candidate from the southern region.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abakaliki on Sunday, Nwafor expressed his concern over the speculation surrounding Atiku’s potential run for the presidency in 2027.

He argued that the time had come for the PDP to support a southern candidate, following Atiku’s failure to reach a workable agreement with Peter Obi before the 2023 elections.

“I have kept quiet since the dinner in Yola, Adamawa State, but I feel it’s time to speak up. Let it be clear to all concerned that His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, a man I respect so much, should bury the idea of running for president in 2027. Instead, he should support a southerner, as both he and Obi couldn’t reach an agreement before the 2023 election,” Nwafor stated.

Nwafor further emphasized that this opinion was his personal view and did not necessarily reflect the stance of the PDP at large.

However, he made a compelling case for the need to “zone” the presidential ticket to the southern region in 2027.

“We need fresh faces to lead our great party. The 2027 presidential ticket must be given to a southerner, no matter the challenges,” he asserted.
