Confusion as Court Orders PDP to Replace National Secretary

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, for what it describes as reckless and inappropriate statements regarding the upcoming elections in Ondo State.

In a statement released on Monday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba expressed strong disapproval of Ganduje’s assertion that the APC aims to “capture” Ondo and other southwestern states.

Ganduje’s comments were made during a stakeholders’ meeting in Akure, where he outlined the APC’s electoral ambitions. In response, Ologunagba emphasized that such language implies a forceful takeover, which would be met with resistance.

“The term ‘capture’ suggests an occupation, and we will not accept being enslaved in our own land,” he stated.

Ologunagba cited historical precedents, warning that attempts to impose control have led to significant unrest in the past, referencing the “wetie” crisis of the 1960s and the National Party of Nigeria’s controversial actions in 1983.

“Any attempt by the APC to force itself upon the people of Ondo State will be met with strong resistance,” he added.

Also, the PDP expressed support for Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s call for the redeployment of the Ondo State Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner, whom they accuse of partisanship favoring the APC.
