PDP Leadership Crisis Escalates as Acting Chairman, Secretary Suspended | Daily Report Nigeria

The leadership turmoil within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has escalated dramatically, as a faction of the National Working Committee (NWC) announced the suspension of Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu.

This decision is based on allegations of disloyalty to the party.

This latest conflict follows previous suspensions issued by a faction supporting Damagum, which targeted National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade and National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba for similar accusations.

In a notable turn of events, Ologunagba, who had been suspended by Damagum’s faction, declared in a statement on Friday that both Damagum and Anyanwu would also be suspended.

The statement detailed that the NWC had “extensively considered the series of complaints raised against the Acting National Chairman, Amb. Illiya Damagum and National Secretary, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu,” particularly regarding their involvement in a legal matter concerning 27 former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who left the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The NWC condemned the actions of Damagum and Anyanwu as “anti-party activity” and a violation of the PDP Constitution. Consequently, they have been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for further investigation.

Pending this inquiry, both officials are suspended from all NWC meetings and activities, deepening the rift within the party as it grapples with ongoing internal strife.
