The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a hotel manager, Remilekun Ajilola, 41, along with Musa Shaibu, 25, in connection with the abduction of a 14-year-old boy, Hassan, in the Olodi-Apapa area of the state.

According to police reports, Hassan was kidnapped on May 1, and his abductors demanded a ransom of N20,000 from his family.

Acting swiftly on the complaint lodged by the victim’s father, police operatives set up a trap at the designated ransom collection point — a Total Filling Station near Wema Bridge in Apapa — leading to the arrest of one of the suspects, Musa Shaibu.

“The team arrested one of the kidnappers namely Musa Shaibu, 25. The team also went to the kidnappers’ criminal hideout at a hotel in Ajegunle area, where the victim was kept,” said the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin.

“He was rescued unhurt, debriefed and reunited with his family while the manager of the hotel one Remilekun Ajilola, 41, was also arrested and taken into police custody for investigation.”

In a related development, the Command also arrested suspected cultists in separate operations at Alagbado and Yaba.

On April 27, police received a distress call about an attack on a 25-year-old man named Quadri by suspected cult members at Alagbado. Officers were deployed to the scene where they apprehended Riliwan Afuape, 26, and Bamidele Ayobami, 29. The victim, who sustained a machete wound on his right hand, was rushed to General Hospital, Ile-Epo for treatment.

“Preliminary enquiry revealed that the victim was attacked as a result of his refusal to join the suspects’ cult group. Meanwhile, investigation is in progress,” Hundeyin added.

On April 29, further intelligence led to the arrest of eight suspected cult members in the Sabo area of Yaba. Those arrested include Ayomide Daniel, 30; Afeez Enitan, 28; Mayor Samson, 28; Olamilekan Adeagbo, 26, alias “Skinny”; Quadri Sikiru, 26; Mariam Salihu, 23; Adeyemo Abdulsamad, 24, alias “Cloud”; and Basit Ishola, 20.

The police recovered weapons from the suspects including a Beretta pistol loaded with four live rounds, one unspent cartridge, two battle axes, and two cutlasses.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were involved in several cases of cult-related killings within Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Sabo and its environs,” Hundeyin said.

In a separate incident, three men were also arrested for allegedly stealing a vehicle in Alapere and attempting to sell it in Okekoto, Agege, on May 1. The suspects, identified as Oluwafemi Oladapo, 28; Idris Mustapha, 28; and Sefianu Usman, 29, were taken into custody and the vehicle was recovered and returned to its rightful owner.

The police stated that efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the car theft syndicate.

Reality star Tochi has weighed in on the disappointing results of Nigerian students in the recent Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam, suggesting that the excessive use of AI tools could be a major factor.

In response to the news that more than 70% of candidates scored below 200, Tochi linked the decline in performance to students’ growing reliance on technology, particularly artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT.
