The Lagos State Police Command has arrested seven individuals in connection with an assault on officials of the Lagos Parking Authority (LASPA).

The arrests were confirmed in a statement by LASPA’s General Manager, Adebisi Adelabu, who alleged that the attack was carried out by some staff members and security personnel attached to Better Mart on Badore Road, off Addo Road in Ajah, as well as Ashley Mall in Epe.

Adelabu disclosed that the suspects are currently being detained at the Badore Police Station in Lekki, where preliminary investigations are underway. She added that once investigations are concluded, they will be charged before a competent court.

She reaffirmed LASPA’s resolve to ensure that those behind the assault face justice, warning that the Lagos State Government will not tolerate any form of attack on its personnel.

Citing Chapter 17, Section 117 of the Criminal Code of Nigeria, Adelabu explained that obstructing or resisting a public officer in the lawful discharge of their duties is a felony punishable by up to three years in prison or a fine of N200,000 upon conviction.

She also reminded organisations and commercial establishments of their obligation under the State Parking Regulations to obtain parking permits from LASPA for proper parking management.

According to her, the assaulted officials were on a routine compliance inspection when the incident occurred, leaving some team members injured.

A suspected serial vandal, Chidiebere Ohama, from Umuariaga in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, narrowly escaped lynching on Friday after allegedly vandalising and selling a ladder belonging to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).

Ohama, who was caught by local vigilante operatives while trying to flee the Mission Hill area of Umuahia, claimed he had been saving the proceeds from his criminal activities to fund travel documents for a trip to Libya.
