A police officer has been arraigned in court and sentenced for the assault of a suspect.
According to reports the 40-year-old officer in Zimbabwe, identified as Owen Manjengwa assaulted a teacher with open hands and a baton which resulted in serious internal injuries.

The incident was reported to have happened at 21 February 2024 at around 3PM at Mhlanguledzi Primary School in Chikombedzi. Manjengwa.
Owen was said to have approached the teacher as a form of investigation over a complaint of unlawful entry reported the previous day.
A statement released by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, NPAZ on May 8, 2025 revealed that the teacher was beaten on the buttocks with the baton, and struck across the face with open hand.
“The offender… informed the victim that he was under arrest. The complainant denied the allegations, and the offender then assaulted him,”
The acts subsequently led to an internal injury for the teacher.
Tyw judge proceeded to sentence the officer to a 90-day jail term, with an option of US$200.
Also, the magistrate imposed a four-month prison term, which was wholly suspended for five years on condition that Manjengwa does not commit a similar offence during that period.
