The Action Peoples Party (APP) emerged as the dominant winner in the recent local government elections in Rivers State, clinching 314 out of the 319 available councillorship seats across all 23 local government areas.
Justice Adolphus Enebeli, Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), announced the results during a press conference in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
According to the official results announced, the APP won in 314 wards. At the same time, the remaining five seats were shared among the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Young People’s Party (YPP), with each party securing one seat.

The overwhelming victory underscores the APP’s widespread support across the state.
The results also dispel speculation regarding the APC’s participation in the October 5th elections. Before the polls, the party’s caretaker committee chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, had hinted at the possibility of the APC not taking part, causing uncertainty among its supporters.
However, the official results confirm that the APC participated in the contest with minimal success.
Interestingly, Chief Emeka Beke, a factional leader of the Rivers APC, had previously affirmed the party’s readiness for the polls, asserting, “As the authentic chairman of APC in Rivers State, we are fully prepared for the election.”
