A non-governmental organization under the aegis of Safe and Better Nigeria has called on the Bayelsa State Government to revitalize education across Alabini communities.

SBN made the call at the end of its two-day educational tour to the communities under the Ekeremor Local Government Area of the state.

Led by its National Coordinator, Mr. Solomon Ikpaka Charles, the voyage touched Alabini communities including Agge, Aghoro, and Bilabiri I & II, Ogbotobo, Letugbene, Amatu I and Amatu II, to address the challenges facing neglected schools.

Leaders of the communities and pupils lamented over the dilapidated infrastructure, unavailability teachers, and laboratories, among other challenges facing education of young ones in the area.

Speaking with Daily Report Nigeria, Solomon called on the Bayelsa State Government led by Governor Douye Diri to “declare a State of Emergency in education” in the area.

“It is really a deplorable situation, and I wish that the welfare department of the Ministy of Education Bayelsa State does better to enhance the quality of education in the area,” Solomon said.

He argued that the that the terrain is surrounded by water is not a cogent reason for schools to be recklessly abandoned the way they are in Ekeremor.

“Since the government found it necessary to establish these schools, it can also do well to see that the schools are put into proper use and not allow these innocent children to suffer,” Solomon added.

The group tasked the government, particularly the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), to borrow a leaf from the work of other states to put in the work towards providing quality education.

The tour aimed to assess the state of these schools and promote solutions, including an upcoming mathematics and general quiz competition set to hold between December 28 and 29 in Aghoro.

The tour also provided SBN an ample opportunity to raise awareness about the forthcoming Alabini Mega Sports Festival to run from December 8 to 29, 2024, among Alabini communities.

The tour included visits to local leaders, including HRM (Dr.) Joel Ekeni Ibane JP, Grand Pere of the Ancient Iduwini Kingdom, to garner community support.
