Senator John Azuta-Mbata has emerged as the new President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, a prominent Igbo socio-cultural organisation.
Azuta-Mbata was chosen through a voice vote, succeeding Fidelis Chukwu, whose tenure concluded on Friday.
The election, which took place at the Old Government Lodge in Enugu, saw Azuta-Mbata elected alongside 15 other individuals to various executive positions within the organisation.

The position of Secretary-General was secured by the former Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Chief Emeka Sibeudu.

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, who hosted the event, emphasized the importance of unity and urged all to prioritise the collective interests of Ndigbo.
“The ties that bind us run deep and transcend geographical boundaries, for we share a common history and cultural heritage. Our forebears understood that unity is a formidable force,” Mbah stated.

The newly elected President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Jackson Omenazu, has vowed to sacrifice his personal freedom for the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
In a statement personally signed by Omenazu, he emphasized that the restoration of peace in Igbo land rests squarely on Kanu’s release.
