Simi, Teni, Davido Top List of Artists Don Jazzy Wishes He Signed

Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy has opened up about a few artists he admired early on but never managed to sign, admitting that timing and circumstances sometimes get in the way.

Speaking frankly, the music executive mentioned that singers Simi and Teni were on his radar, but things never progressed beyond admiration. “I like Simi. I didn’t sign her. I wish I did. I like Teni. I wish I did,” he admitted.

Don Jazzy also disclosed that he once had the chance to sign Davido but held back, believing the singer’s rise was inevitable. “I had the opportunity for Davido, obviously, but I didn’t because I kind of figured that he would be fine,” he explained.

Addressing his long-standing respect for Wizkid, the producer said a collaboration couldn’t happen because the singer was already tied to another label. “To Wizkid, obviously, I couldn’t because Banky got to him first. That would have been amazing.”

He also touched on a near-deal with Falz, saying discussions were held but never finalized. “Falz, I love his work, and we almost actually had a deal. Well, it didn’t work out.”

Reflecting on all these near misses, Don Jazzy noted the reality of the industry: “But then at the end of the day, you cannot sign everybody.”
