Nigerians have reacted, following a recent speech by the Sultan of Sokoto.

In a video making rounds online the Sultan, alongside the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, declared social media a terrorist organization.

Speaking during the 17th executive committee meeting of the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council in Borno state, the Sultan noted social media is now a terrorist organization, and should be treated as one.

He explained how it is used as a device to promote misinformation and national unrest in the country.

He said;

“What happened has happened. It can’t come and be through social media. That’s one terrorist organisation…social media.

What they do… somebody will sit in his comfort zone and formulate stories and you will think that it is true. So, social media is a terrorist organisation that we must deal with. Security agencies must deal with this terrorist organisation called social media.”
