Protesters demand accountability four years after the infamous demonstrations, met with tear gas and dispersal orders.
Lagos State Police Command faced criticism this morning after deploying tear gas to disperse protesters commemorating the fourth anniversary of the #EndSARS movement at the Lekki Toll Gate.
Eyewitnesses reported chaos as officers fired shots into the air, prompting demonstrators to flee.
The gathering, which began around 8:30 AM, saw participants carrying banners and placards calling for the full implementation of recommendations made by various judicial panels established post-2020 protests.

Another protester, Bayo Are, described his injuries: “I was hit too. I’m not really injured, just a few scratches on my body. Some people have also been arrested.”
In response to the events, Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin stated that the protesters were warned to disperse to prevent traffic disruption.
“They were told to disperse, but they were adamant; we had to use minimal force to disperse them,” he explained.
