The Nigerian government, through the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), has issued an urgent directive to residents living along the River Benue Basin to immediately relocate due to the imminent threat of severe flooding.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The rising water levels in the river, caused by increased rainfall, have reached dangerous levels, prompting the warning.

In a statement signed by NIHSA Director General, Umar Ibrahim Mohammed, the agency stressed the need for swift action, urging all residents near the riverbanks to move to safer areas.

He said the management of Kainji and Jebba dams is working to manage the floodwaters, but warned that relocation is essential to avoid disaster.

The government also called on Nigerians to cooperate with emergency management agencies and work together to build resilience against flooding.

NIHSA further noted that collective efforts are critical in minimizing the potential aftermath and ensuring the safety of those in vulnerable areas.
