President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renewal of the appointment of Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) for a second and final four-year term.
The reappointment, announced by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), is in line with Section 93 of the Electricity Act, 2023.
A statement by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the OSGF, said the President expects Yelwa to build on the gains recorded by the Commission and inject greater innovation and commitment into delivering on its mandate.

N-HYPPADEC was established to manage ecological challenges and drive socio-economic development in communities impacted by hydroelectric power projects.
Under Yelwa’s leadership, the Commission has initiated several infrastructure, livelihood, and environmental restoration programmes in the affected areas.
The President’s directive, according to the statement, is for the renewed tenure to deepen these interventions and ensure sustainable benefits for the communities.
