Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusif Abdullahi Ata, has cautioned Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria’s Peoples Party (NNPP), against making statements that could deepen divisions in the country and potentially lead to contempt of court regarding the ongoing Kano Emirate Council legal issues.
Ata’s warning comes after Kwankwaso alleged interference from Lagos in the selection of Kano’s Emir during the convocation ceremony at Skylight University.
Kwankwaso stated, “Today, we can see very clearly there is a lot of effort from the Lagos axis to polarize this part of the country… Lagos wouldn’t allow us to choose our Emir”.
The Minister said the Kano Emirate issue is still pending in court and urged Kwankwaso to refrain from making statements that could be perceived as contempt of court.
“My remarks underscore the need for leaders to act responsibly to foster unity, rather than causing disharmony and creating uncertainty among the citizens,” he responded.
