Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, declared victory in the 2024 US presidential race, following a commanding performance in key battleground states.

Speaking to a raucous crowd at his campaign’s watch party in West Palm Beach, the former president claimed that he had secured an “unprecedented” mandate from the American people, despite official results still being pending in several states.

“We have won this election, and America is poised to enter a golden age,” Trump told the cheering audience, repeating his famous “Make America Great Again” slogan.

He pointed to his strong performance in states like Georgia and Pennsylvania, which he flipped from Democratic control, and declared that only one more swing state, Alaska, was needed to push him over the 270 electoral votes required for victory.

“Once Alaska is called, this will be a decisive win,” Trump said, referring to the traditionally Republican state that has not voted for a Democrat in 60 years.

Although the final outcome remains uncertain with votes still being counted in critical states, Trump’s remarks suggested he felt confident that his lead would hold as more results come in. “This is not just a victory for me, but for the American people,” he continued. “I hope one day, you will look back and say this was one of the most important days of your life.”

Trump’s declaration of victory came ahead of any official announcements from the media or election officials, raising questions about whether he was jumping the gun in prematurely claiming a win.

However, his statement was met with ecstatic cheers from his supporters, who waved American flags and chanted his name.

In his speech, Trump also congratulated his running mate, JD Vance, who he praised as the “next vice president of the United States.” Vance, a Republican senator from Ohio, took to the stage and described Trump’s campaign as “the greatest political comeback ever,” acknowledging the high expectations placed on his vice-presidential candidacy.

“We’ve achieved something incredible here tonight,” Trump said. “It’s not just about winning; it’s about restoring America’s greatness.”

In his emotional address, Trump also thanked his wife, Melania, who stood by his side, and praised her book, which is currently the number one bestseller in the country. “She’s done a fantastic job, and I’m proud of her,” he said, before turning his attention to his children, who were also present at the event.
