Donald Trump has secured a crucial victory in North Carolina, one of the seven key battleground states, giving him a significant boost in the intensely contested US presidential election.

This win has narrowed down Kamala Harris’s path to victory, with her campaign describing the race as “razor-thin”.

The Republican candidate is also expected to win the key battleground state of Georgia.

According to Harris’s campaign director, Jen O’Malley Dillon, the Democratic vice president’s clearest path to victory now lies in the Blue Wall swing states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Despite the challenges, Dillon remains optimistic, stating that “we feel good about what we’re seeing” in the Blue Wall.

On the other hand, Trump’s camp is confident of a good outcome with spokesman Jason Miller describing the mood in Florida as “positive”.

Trump’s early wins in predictably Republican states like Florida and Texas have given him 246 electoral votes, while Harris has secured 187 votes, primarily due to her victory in California.

To win the presidency, any of the candidates is expected to get at least 270 electoral votes.
