Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has candidly expressed that he is the “greatest loser” in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for October 5, due to the withdrawal of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), from the polls.

Speaking to political stakeholders at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Fubara acknowledged the implications of the party’s absence while emphasizing the necessity of complying with a recent Supreme Court ruling.

In his remarks, Fubara stated, “In this election, I am the greatest loser because my party is not participating. It’s the truth! However, as Governor, I must adhere to the Supreme Court ruling that mandates elected officials to oversee local government operations.”

He reiterated the importance of the elections, noting, “The local council process must proceed for Rivers State. RSIEC will handle its part, and once they conclude, the government will take it from there.”

Fubara thanked his supporters for their dedication to democracy, stating, “A good number of you here are loyal party members who won’t benefit from this, yet you are supporting us. I appreciate your commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that Rivers State remains a strong member of the comity of states.”

He reiterated by encouraging unity among party members and urged them not to be swayed by misinformation or propaganda.

“Rest assured that the government will do everything possible to ensure that Rivers State does not descend into confusion,” he assured.
