‘Abure Remains National Chair’- Appeal Court Reaffirms LP Leadership | Daily Report Nigeria
  • The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reaffirmed Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.

  • The appellate court held that its previous judgment of November 13, 2024.

  • The court struck out a suit filed by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman and the caretaker committee.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reiterated that Julius Abure remains the National Chairman of the Labour Party.

This decision was made by a three-member panel of the appellate court, led by Justice Hamma Barka, while delivering judgment in two separate appeals filed by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman and the caretaker committee, as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) [2).

The court held that its previous judgment of November 13, 2024, recognizing Abure as national chairman, subsists and has not been set aside by any court.

Justice Barka emphasized that the court did not delve into the issue of the leadership of the Labour Party, as such matters are not justiciable.

The appellate court also struck out a suit filed by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman and the caretaker committee, stating that it was delivered without jurisdiction and therefore of no effect.

According to the court, anything done outside jurisdiction amounts to a nullity.

Nigerian actor cum politician, Kenneth Okonkwo has blamed Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), for the rising number of defections in the party.

Okonkwo, in a statement via his X account, said the defections are a testament to the loss of confidence in Abure’s leadership.
