A woman identified as Nguevese Abite from Adeor community in Isherev, Ndzorov Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area, Benue State, was killed by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen on Thursday.

A resident, Mr. Anshu Timothy, explained that Nguevese and others were working on their farm when the attackers arrived and questioned them about their identities.

“After answering their questions, the group left. However, while retiring home for the day, Nguevese lagged behind,” Timothy said.

He added that the family grew worried after she failed to return home and went back to the farm to search for her but found no trace.

“The family searched for her the following day which is today, and her body was eventually discovered in a secluded area of the farm.

“The police were informed, and her body was taken to the Gbajimba Police Division Headquarters, where it was handed over to the family for burial in Logo Local Government Area,” he said.

Further investigations revealed that Fulani herdsmen have been terrorizing the community, reportedly raping women and committing other atrocities.

A source said Nguevese may have resisted an attempt to rape her, which led to her killing.

Recall that in June, armed Fulani herdsmen attacked the same community, injuring two farmers, Kator Gbangir and Adeor, after they tried to chase away a flock of cattle destroying their crops.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, for comment were unsuccessful at the time of this report.

Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command have rescued at least 50 kidnap victims and recovered 229 rustled animals across the state in July, the command announced on Friday.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed the achievements to newsmen in Katsina while highlighting the progress made by the police during the month.
