Questions authenticity of reports about her seeking forgiveness on Buhari’s behalf
A United States-based public affairs analyst and journalism professor, Farooq Kperogi, has alleged that Aisha Buhari was no longer married to the late President Muhammadu Buhari before his death.
Kperogi made the claim in a post shared on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday, raising fresh questions about the family dynamics of Nigeria’s former First Family.
“Before Buhari’s death, he and Aisha were no longer married. She had reverted to her maiden name, Aisha Halilu,” Kperogi wrote.

He further suggested that Aisha’s limited presence around Buhari during his final days was due to the reported separation.
“When he fell ill and it was suggested Aisha travel to London to care for him, she reportedly hesitated because she was no longer his wife. She eventually went in the last few days before he died, but only after intense persuasion,” Kperogi added.

The journalism professor also questioned the authenticity of a widely circulated statement claiming Aisha said Buhari instructed her to ask Nigerians for forgiveness before his death.
“I can’t confirm the authenticity of that claim. Where did she even say this?” he queried.
The claims surfaced barely a day after Buhari was laid to rest in Daura, Katsina State. Aisha Buhari attended the burial, where she was seen visibly emotional and was comforted by several dignitaries, including First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.
Buhari and Aisha married in December 1989 and had five children together.
