“President Buhari was not a perfect man, no leader is, but he brought character, incorruptibility, and quiet courage to public life,” Tinubu said, adding that the former leader’s simplicity and humility stood out during and after his tenure.

The president reflected on their political alliance, recalling how both men, alongside other stakeholders, worked to achieve Nigeria’s first democratic transfer of power in 2015. Tinubu praised Buhari for leading with restraint, governing with dignity, and resisting the trappings of power.

“When his tenure ended, he returned to Daura not to command from the shadows but to live as he always had—content to let others lead,” Tinubu added, praying for Almighty Allah to grant Buhari eternal peace in Aljannah Firdaus.

The Federal Executive Council unanimously adopted the proposal to rename the university, as part of a broader effort to commemorate Buhari’s contributions to national development.
