According to Nansel, the event occurred on September 4, 2025, around 5:45 p.m., when 22-year-old Aisha Hashiru was caught by residents at Orange Market, Mararaba, attempting to abduct three children.
“She was about to be lynched when the Divisional Police Officer of Mararaba ‘A’ Division, acting promptly on the report, mobilized his patrol team to the scene, rescued both the suspect and the children, and moved them to the station for safety,” Nansel said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Aisha had earlier sneaked into the home of Ramatu Auwal at Orange Market around 5:00 p.m. and abducted her three children: Fatima Auwal, 4, Shafiyi Auwal, 5, and Amina Auwal, 6. The suspect confessed to luring the children with promises of buying them biscuits before being intercepted by vigilant residents.
The Commissioner of Police has directed that the case be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for a detailed investigation. He also urged officers to intensify efforts in addressing other reports of missing children and to continue combating human trafficking in the state.
“The Command appreciates the vigilance of residents and assures the public of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and ensuring the safety of children across Nasarawa State,” the statement concluded.
