Police Rescue Kidnap Victim in Rivers, Recover Stolen Items

The Rivers State Police Command has successfully rescued a kidnapped victim, Mathew John-Zephaniah, during a coordinated operation involving tactical operatives and a local vigilante group.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the operation was carried out by officers drawn from tactical units and divisions under the Oyigbo Area Command, in collaboration with the OSPAC vigilante group.

The team acted swiftly on credible intelligence and stormed a suspected kidnappers’ hideout in the Agbo-Nchia Forest.

The statement revealed that the kidnappers opened fire on sighting the operatives, resulting in a gun duel. However, the police overpowered them.

“Due to the superior firepower of the police, the kidnappers abandoned their victim and fled the scene with gunshot wounds,” Iringe-Koko said.

She added that several items were recovered during the operation, including the victim’s belongings and gadgets suspected to belong to the suspects.

“The victim’s HP Laptop and Redmi Phone were recovered, along with two Android Phones and a Smart Wrist Watch suspected to belong to the kidnappers.

“The victim was rescued unhurt and has been debriefed and reunited with his family.

“The exhibits are currently in Police custody, while concerted efforts are being made to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang,” the statement added.

The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olugbenga A. Adepoju, assured residents of the Command’s continued dedication to protecting lives and property across the state.

He also urged the public to report anyone with suspicious gunshot wounds to the nearest police station or other security agencies without hesitation.
