Army General Detained, Over Theft Of Soldiers' Palliatives, Vehicles, Others | Daily Report Nigeria

  • An army General has been arrested and is currently under detention over alleged theft.

  • Daily Report Nigeria gathers that the army boss was detained for diversion of palliatives meant for soldiers, amongst other crimes.

A General of a Nigerian Army Brigade in Kano State has been put under detention and interrogations for the alleged theft of public properties.

The army boss, name withheld is accused of “diversion of rice palliatives, selling of military equipment, including generator sets and operational vehicles, to scrap yards.”

According to reports from Daily Nigerian, someone, who pleaded anonymity said the some quantities of rice was given by the Nigerian Defence Headquarters which are to be shared to soldiers nationwide.

The army General, according to the source added that he only shared 5kg bags once to the soldier, adding that the Defence Headquarters had distributed the rice at least on three occasions.

He added that the the general had sold off the remaining batches.

Daily Nigerian quoted;

“the embattled general carted away equipment, including a MIKANO heavy-duty generator, at Military Training Camp, Falgore, Kano and sold them to metal scrap dealers.”

Following these allegations, the indicted General “has been detained in guardroom and is facing interrogation by the special investigation branch of military police in Abuja.

“He was first invited to Abuja for questioning, and immediately ordered to be locked in the military police guardroom. There are mounting allegations against him,” the report said.

It added that, “Spokesman for the Nigerian Army, Major-General Onyema Nwachukwu, didn’t respond to calls and SMS sent to his known telephone number at the time of filing this report”
