Plethora of Petitions Threaten Legitimacy of IYC Eastern Zone Elections

A plethora of petitions challenging the legitimacy of the Ijaw Youth Council Eastern Zone election have been received by the Mobile Parliament of the youth body.

According to documents cited by our correspondent, the petitioners listed eidespread violence, killing and maiming of Ijaw youths, intimidation of delegates by gunmen in the election hall while voting was ongoing and threats to the life of some aspirants by gunmen.

The development has forced the 5th Mobile Parliament led by Bob Collins Igetei to summon the IYC President, Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr, and other members of the 9th National Executive Council.

The Parliament also extended invitation to the embattled quartet of Mao Obuye Nangi – Secretary, Comrade Miracle Iyaye – Women Leader, Barr. Mltmide Tamunotonye David National Legal Adviser – Legal Adviser, and Comradc Abiye Bob-Manuel National Deputy Director of Mobilization of Council.

Parliament will hold a hearing with NEC members loyal to President Lokpobiri and the other Eastern Zowlne block of Council on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Mansal Hotel, in Warri, Delta State.

They are to appear before the House Committe Public Petition,  Ethics and Privileges on an investigation concerning the various petition made before the House on the premise of fairess, equity and justice.

Meanwhile, Comrade Ama Robert, who chaired the Zonal Electoral Committee that oversaw the September 24, 2024 elections will also undergo investigation from Parliament on Monday October 7 alongside his secretary at the same venue.
