Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has expressed unease regarding President Bola Tinubu’s recent comments on the escalating crisis in the region, specifically noting that he is troubled his name was singled out amid the chaos.

This response follows a wave of violence that has led to the destruction of several local government secretariats.

In an interview on Channels TV, Fubara stated, “I do not have any issue with the President’s intervention, but I am a bit concerned when my name was only mentioned.”

He emphasized that the underlying issues in Rivers State extend beyond his governance, asserting, “It’s not rocket science. We know what the issue is and the issue is not Fubara.”

The crisis intensified after police withdrew security from 23 council secretariats, allowing hoodlums to wreak havoc, including setting fire to several buildings and engaging in gunfire in various localities.

In a statement, President Tinubu directed police to restore security and urged Fubara and local leaders to maintain peace.

Fubara added, “I believe strongly that with the recent intervention of the Inspector General of Police, maybe we will have a breathing space.”

He criticized the police withdrawal, suggesting that it facilitated the violence and called for adequate security for elected officials to perform their duties.
